This series offers students opportunities to:
- Practice yoga postures, focusing techniques and breathing practices for emotional regulation.
- Learn perspectives of nervous system regulation from somatic psychology and yogic philosophy that can contribute to an easing of anxiety symptoms.
- Explore how self-inquiry practices can support self-management of anxiety.
- Discover daily practices that can support how you feel and deal with your anxiety.
Class size is limited and classes will be tailored to group participants’ accessibility needs and individual intentions. These classes WILL NOT be recorded to protect the confidentiality of students. Yoga for Anxiety is for students who have had yoga experience and wish to deepen their understanding of yoga as it relates to their emotional experience.
Colleen Millen (E-RYT-500), your class instructor, intends to create a trauma-informed and consent-based environment. Students will be encouraged to follow their own intentions and choices while learning yoga tools that can help pacify anxiety symptoms and contribute toward expanding capacity to be with anxiety experiences. All yoga tools will feature engagement options to aid access to the class. Colleen will also offer brief educational frames on topics from a somatic psychology and therapeutic yoga framework to enhance student’s self-reflection journey. Students, if they choose, may be invited to share their experience as it relates to yoga practices at times.
A special feature of this class series is a 20 to 30 min personal phone call or zoom video with Colleen prior to the class series starting. This connection with Colleen will include an assessment where she will learn about your experience of anxiety and any optimal outcomes you may have for yourself. Colleen will also be available for a post class-series connection if a student desires to reassess what worked and what didn’t.
** Registration closes April 20. Those interested can email firstname.lastname@example.org for initial connection/assessment and confirmation that this class series is right for you. After your assessment, Colleen will give you a link to how to register.

I am blessed to be inspired by two careers – yoga teaching and psychotherapy. In both, I attempt to organize around values of consent, agency, and accessibility. Through the past 20-years of practice, it is in experiences teaching yoga for emotional health that I truly feel in service. Continually inspired by the intersection of yoga and psychology, I created workshops and teacher trainings on yoga for depression and trauma-informed yoga. A more recent movement in my career has come through training to become a certified Accessible Yoga Teacher. I am currently a yoga therapist-in-training with Optimal State Yoga Therapy School under the mentorship of certified yoga therapist Becky Deano, LPC, E-RYT-500, C-IAYT. Optimal State is an American yoga teaching school in which core trainers are in continual education and mentorship with Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. As a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of California (#109436), I help teens and adults around issues that relate to anxiety, depression and developmental trauma. I am a certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Teens (MBSR-T) instructor and certified Neuro-Affective Relational Model (NARM) therapist.
